Wadfest

The Wadfest Festivals are family friendly camping and fun, charity fund raising, events held (nearly) annually in the English East Midlands. Each year the event has a theme; in 2009 it was Wadstock: Music to Die For. Batley and Edwards produced a pair of stamps to commemorate the event philatelically. The 1 Wad stamp featured an hour glass with musical notes running out of time (The Day the Music Died), while the 3 Wad depicted the Grim Reaper playing his white Gibson. The sheet Mythprints showed an upside down hourglass and, more subtly, a longer chain around the Reaper`s waist.

The stamps were accompanied by a cover, a pair of stamps in a presentation folder and an Design Artwork proof sheet. Those ordering a range of items qualified for a Big Thank You envelope which contained extra stamps such as some alternative colour tests and their Mythprints. The colour tests came from four sheets of each value, each with nine stamps. The 1 Wad sheets provided 12 different colour combinations and Mythprints with tete-beche arrangements. The 5 Wad sheets provided 36 different colour variations, with subtle differences of the backgrounds, The Reaper`s cloak and the shading. It is quite possible that each one of these sent to collectors was different. It was the sale of imperforate sheets of these stamps which revealed the extent of this variation.

There was also a postal label declaring that the stamps had been Bought at Wadstock. - used on envelopes even if they weren’t!
