A pair of new stamps appeared during the Year of the Three Rose, a small diamond shaped Two Pence, and a new design for the Three Pence shield. Whilst they do not sit comfortably together design-wise, they are linked by a common background pattern said to be crossed daggers and garottes.
The Two Pence stamp features Wiggy Charlie, the windvane which stands on top of the dome of the guild headquarters. The sport has an item of neck apparel hanging from his dagger, representing student exuberance. They were printed in sheets of 54; with just one sport per sheet these are one of the more difficult sports to track down for a collection.

The British Library holds some A4 sized print outs of Karen Dupe’s alternative designs for this stamp, and a set of the final design in a range of sizes down to the selected 28mm square. This is normal practice undertaken to see all the detail, and to show how much, if any, is lost during the reduction in size. The shared background design can be clearly seen on the left hand alternative design.
