Anderton Nature Reserve, 4th July 2008

The area just north of Northwich in Cheshire was, not long ago, a hive of chemical industry activity. That has changed now with closures and demolition combined with changes in practice. Large areas have been transformed into country parkland and nature reserve.

A day out to the Anderton Boat Lift and a ramble through the park was rewarded with some Marsh Fragrant Orchids and some past-their-best Southern Marsh Orchids. They were growing together in a small slightly overgrown field with a path running through the middle.

Post script to this. Not only did I not look for any hybrids for two orchids growing so closely together, but it seems there are other sites of similar ecology nearby that are better known for their orchids. A return visit is overdue
