The regard that the Ankh-Morpork Post Office has for Anoia is demonstrated by the release of a rather ornate proof sheet of the ne Penny stamp. It is A5 sized, and is nearly unique amongst Discworld proof sheets in that the stamp design is internally perforated. This means that the perforations do not run from one sheet edge to the opposite edge. The perforations are only around the stamp. To achieve this, normally a die would have to be made specifically for that one purpose, with perforating pins set in a rectangular shape, This would also have to be held in the correct position regarding the sheet and stamp. This is quite a lot of work. That this work is not as neat in terms of pin spacing as the Koom Valley proof sheets suggests that the die for the Anoia sheet was home made.
The stamp from the proof sheet and one from the regular sheets. Putting the differences of colour intensity aside as this may be a scanning artifact, it is apparent that the proof sheet version of the stamp lacks much fine detail of the regular stamps. This is most apparent in the background to Anoia and on Anoia herself. As it unlikely the design would have been redrawn and downgraded for the proof sheet, it is possible that the proofs were printed by a different process. Some 600 proof sheets were printed and were only made available to subscribers of the Stanley Howler Stamp Journal with issue 9.
