Proofs & Covers

Bonk provided collectors with no less than three covers and five pr six proof sheets. The was a Consulate cover, typical of the time, with a 1 Bz stamp and a Blue Bernard. For the 2007 German DW Convention there was a souvenir cover with all three values. But the best item was a cover carrying the 1 Bz standard stamp and all seven transformations. All the covers had the stamps canceled with the same Bonk frank.

There is an A5 Printers Proof sheet of the 1 Bz stamp, and Artist’s Proof sheet with all three values plus a 3 Bz value; this brown stamp is of the same design as the 1 Bz, but abandoned after this proof sheet was prepared. There were three A4 sized variations of the Transformations stamp proof sheet. They all show the eight designs; one has them just numbered, an alternate design had the transformation figures underneath the appropriate stamp, and an unreleased version where those figures are much larger, but lack the ground shadow part of the image. Finally there was transformation recognition sheet featuring the first three transformations. I have not seen the sister sheet showing transformations 4 to 7; perhaps there was none. The idea was to act as an help for the Emporium in recognising the transformations.
