Pseudopolis cover 3

The third Pseudopolis cover was sent from that city-state and features a stamp with a number of unique features. Pseudopolis has not (yet) issued its own stamps, and for this cover has hijacked a Wincanton perforated AMPO 10p green and overprinted it. It now states “The Assembly and People of Pseudopolis” and is re-valued to 8 pence. These overprints were applied individually to each stamp as each example seems to have them positioned differently. The paper surface is quite glossy; under a magnifier the gloss seems to have a fine texture that is present on top of the overprint suggesting it was a varnish applied afterwards.

Finally the examples of this stamp I have seen have all been slightly larger than the regular 40 x 35 mm of all the other versions. Now this can be due to a slight misalignment during perforating - one line of holes is displaced downwards by a millimetre or so. However this would inevitably lead to a row of smaller stamps, and all the others would be regular sized. I have already mentioned that the stamp image used for the Enschede printing is larger than those for the Bath and Wincanton perforated stamps This stamp’s artwork is a bit smaller than that used for the Enschedes, with the extra full stamp dimensions being wider un-printed borders
