July 2006

Formby, 16th July 2006

Now in the possession of a digital camera I can resurrect my passion for the wild orchids of Britain, capturing their images and storing the best. My old film camera simply wasn’t

`t up to the job, but his new camera has a nice macro facility for close-ups though it does look like I will need quite a bit of practice on this.

Anyway, I can think about new sites and revisiting old ones. First opportunity is the among the pine plantation at the back of the dunes at Formby in Lancashire (you will not catch me adhering to the new county lines - I like the old traditional ones!!). I have been here before partly on a wild goose chase looking for Lizard Orchids - the information was old and unreliable. But there are Dune Helleborines growing under the pine trees not far from Lifeboat road; if fact just about visible from the road in the absence of any other vegetation beneath the trees. I am a bit too early to catch them in flower this year though.
