For the Year of the Signifying Frog there was a new colourway for the fifty pence cabbage fields stamp, in Empire Green and shades of brown. Unlike its predecessor no cabbages were harmed in the making of these stamps. From the start a Sport was to be made available.
The first incarnation of the stamp was to be the sheet approved by Terry at the Clarecraft Event but it had a text error and needed to be reprinted. It said Engravers and Engravers for Teemer and Spools, not Printers and Engravers. It had a huge (A6-ish) blow up of the stamps at the top on a black background and four preproduction stamps in a pane at the bottom, the design from before Terry suggested the tilted head for Vetinari. This was signed by Alan Batley and Colin Edwards. The corrections were made and other sign off sheets prepared. One of these sold for £75 in 2011, but another failed to reach its reserve on eBay later in the year.
These sheets are unique in that they are they only source of a number of varieties of this stamp. Firstly there is the large A6 sized stamp. Whether this varied between the two presentation sheets is unknown, but possibly not. The miniature sheet of four stamps, with and without the error is also unique, and individually these are the only known source of the common stamp printed and perforated in Wincanton. Thy would be significantly different in print quality, colours and paper than those regularly available which were printed in Holland by Enschede and perf 13.5
Though ‘billed’ as a sport of the Cabbage Fields stamp, this is a totally different print. Prepared and perforated in Wincanton it features what is politely referred to as a pair of lovers in the cabbage field. The issued stamps had a second difference - Vetinari’s head in the lower left corner was tilted backwards

A colour trials sheet shows five different colourways being considered, but as the released stamp is labelled as original, it would seem that the decision had already been made. Basic 50p stamps, flagrant cabbage stamps and mirrored stamps are included on the sheet. The actual sheets were printed by Discworld Emporium and perforated 10. In fact these sheets were printed in much larger (A3) sized sheets together with the Blue Bernard labels and both Pain of Pains sheets. These were cut down later prior to perforating. However the colour intensity of the stamp depended upon the actual medium it was printed on. The sheet sheet pictured below has darker stamps compared to thse issued suggesting the paper used was not the regular stamp paper. This may have been prepared for quality control purposes.
