The Penny Sprout

Compared to the other Sto Helit stamps there is little philatelic interest in the Penny Sprout stamp. They were printed in sheets of 48 with one Slug Sport per sheet.

The sheets do not appear to be printed by Teemer & Spools. The margin proclaims PROUDLY PRINTED IN STO HELIT IN THE YEAR OF THE RECIPROCATING LLAMA. Also it is states STO HELIT - CELEBRATING THE HUMBLE SPROUT and GREAT THINGS COME IN SMALL PACKAGES.
The one area where sprouticulture is of note is not Sto Helit, but not far off in the area around Scrote on the edge of the Effing Forest, where they are noted for their hardness.

I would like to dispel the myth that if you sprinkle a bit of salt on the Sport that next morning it will have become a Common. This clearly untrue.

A replacement for this stamp was issued in the Year of the Beleaguered Badger. Sto Lat is now proclaiming to be The Sprout Centre of Excellence. This time it is grubby caterpillars that feature on the sprouts. Invertebrate animals do have liking for these. I doubt Sir Samuel Vimes had them on his shopping list.
