|    This was a postal service operated by the owners of the horse-drawn Oernant Tramway which transported slate from the quarries atop Horseshoe Pass down to the canal near Llangollen in Victorian times. Despite being closed for well over a century most of the course of this tramway can be still seen, including the big rope incline near Valle Crucis Abbey. The fee was ˝d per letter in addition to any Royal Mail charges.
From 1848-1852 overprinted surcharges on Royal Mail stamps were used.  The early imperforate Penny Reds are the only known examples. These were later replaced by a pair of labels printed se-tenant with roulette perforations. Covers are rare and the second one of these shows the Quarry view stamp with the horseshoe postmark used on post from the quarries to a local address in Llangollen without being forwarded by Royall Mail
