Some 15 years on I am adding a basic user guide to this site.
The Outings. This lists just about every site in the British Isles where I have seen an orchid; no matter how insignificant. These visits are ordered by year and month. Some months cover than one page, being subtitled i, ii or iii. This is because no-one wants to have to keep scrolling. The early entries are more basic, but perhaps one day I can update them. Most entries will have photos. Click on these and a larger image will pop up in a new window. Close that to return to the page. Next to the place and date more recent visits have a link to Google maps. Depending upon the site his may be to where the orchids grow, or where you can park and gain entry. If there is no map link then this is because it is sensitive or I have been asked to withhold the exact location.
Species and Photos Basically a table with each species, sub-species, form or whatever, in what is standard text book order. In the final column is a list of all the places where I have first seen that orchid. Click on the site name to go to that visit. As you can imagine, the list of Common Spotted orchid sites seems to go on forever.
Places Another table, this time with each place in alphabetical order. There is a date link to each visit. Some of my local sites have quite a few listed.
Beyond the UK Basically a list of holiday trips outside the UK where there have been orchids. Each entry links to the first day of that visit
Orchids in the News Another list. If I see any newpaper or TV news concerning orchids I add it to the top of the list with what it is about, the date and a link to an online resource. Some of these may have expired over the years.
Freak Show Something that hasn’t really worked. Just a collection of some of the malformed or more bizarre orchids seen over the years. Hard to draw a line of what should or should not be included here.
My Ramblings Let it be known that I have opinions, and sometimes these are worthy of being published. Well, at least I think so. Basically its just my thoughts on a variety of topics. Please do not take them too seriously. Sometimes it needs something off the wall to be said to help others form their own opinions on a topic. I try to include a new topic each year as a talking point, but no-one seems to want to discuss it.
Navigation Iin 2023 I added standard navigation image to each page - as below. I think for the most part these work well, but if you should always be able to find your way back if they do not work as intended, or as your thought they would.
