The most recent Clacks stamps have been associated with the Wormherder series of letters, messages and covers, available through the GCTS scheme again. They feature on two of them, but in all the five covers tell the story of Josiah Shawyer, a cabbage grower of note, trying to order some worms from a dealer with contacts in the wormherding fraternity of the Sto Plains, to help cultivate his land for a better crop. The letters have an understory of Josiah trying to marry off his eldest daughter; a strong, homely lass by all accounts.
The cover of interest to this subject is the fourth cover, a Clacks message from Ebenezer Mangle, the middle man of the deal, confirming the order and providing the costs to Mr Shawyer. There is a 3p Grand Trunk stamp on the cover, for the cost of the delivery, and a 1p Grand Trunk revenue stamp on the actual Clacks message for the DW equivalent of stamp duty.

With each cover requiring 25 GCTS stamps, and having a limited edition of just 100 each, these are likely to be desirable collectables in the future. Another must have are the unused examples of all seven stamps used in the series. The too require 25 GCTS stamps, and can only be claimed after the collector has all five covers. Just for the sake of completion, I am including the final cover of the series because the personalised rubber stamp of Thaddeus Spelt on the envelope shows his c-mail address. The life of a wormherder may be lonely sometimes out on the hills, but he is dedicated to profession, and is not going to be behind the times.
