Morporkia is one of the emblems of the city, and is invariably portrayed as a resilient looking lady in an ermine lined cape, holding a trident or equivalent, and holding a shield bearing the arms of the city. As such, she bears more than a passing resemblance to Brittania. She is a favourite subject of the Ankh Morpork Times cartoonist Fizz.
This is an early sketch of Morporkia as used on the prototype stamps. She looks a rather hefty lass, and was only used as guide for later sketches.
Morporkia was redrawn with her trident replaced by a toasting fork and wearing a coal scuttle for a helmet. The instruction was apparently helmet like a coal scuttle, but was taken too literally. However it was sufficiently Discworld to be retained. The shield became more detailed and her cape acquired cabbage motifs. This, though is purely a transitional drawing.
The final representation of Morporkia makes her much more feminine. The shield is properly drawn, and her skirts and cape have their folds realistically redrawn. This is the version used on the 5p and 10p stamps from the first four years. Since then she has been occasionally redrawn for the yearly changes to the definitives, but this version is the basis for the later ones.
