Sir Roderick

Sir Roderick Purdeigh was, perhaps, to exploration what B.S. Johnson was to inventions. He spent his life looking for XXXX, but never got there. Instead he circled the Circle Sea just out of sight of land for months on end. He truly believed he had circumnavigated the Disc. He met his end in Bhangbhangduc remonstrating with what he assumed to be the natives, but were in actual fact probably members of species Pongo pongo. He is most likely to have used the M-word. Despite this he is perhaps unique in being the only person, not a head of state or part of a ruling family, to have appeared on two DW stamps. Apart from the Wahoonie stamp, he also appeared in the Great Explorers series issued during the Year of the Pensive Hare. On that stamp he is declared to be Surveyor of the Circle Sea, despite the overwhelming evidence that he had no clue where he was.
