Smoking Wahoonie

The Smoking Wahonie was the free stamp with copies of the Stanley Howler Stamp Journal issue 6 - though at the time it was referred to as The Big Wahoonie. The central image of Purdeigh, puffing on his pipe standing by a Wahoonie, was by David Wyatt. David was also artist for the original Bad Blintz stamps and the portrait of Susan Sto Helit. There is a short biography of him in Journal 6. Colin Edwards put together the final stamp design. For me, this is one of the classic Discworld Stamps.

The same Journal`s subscribers-only offer was a cover for the stamp. It was sponsored by Captain Eightpanthers Digestives, which according to The Light Fantastic was a biscuit reminiscent of dwarf bread which meant that explorers would always have some available, no matter how long their journey was. It came complete with a postcard, a cloakroom ticket for the Ankh-Morpork Travelers Club which has not been redeemed, and a his last but one message; a note left to his milkman Ronnie Soak (perhaps the only example of such that can be found, or will ever be found, in a stamp collection of any kind). A bargain for 10 quid.
