Bath Perforated

With the Press Day at Bath Postal Museum upcoming for the launch of Going Postal a number of Patrician sheets of 91 stamps were prepared. Terry and Bernard, in costume had a go at perforating the sheets - without much success by some accounts. The results were not very good, which is understandable for a first attempt and with much distraction. It is unlikely that any of these ended up in collector`s hands. However, Vince was dispatched there later with more sheets and the results of the sessions were used in LBEs. As described on other pages here the early results were still not that good, and the stamps from the early sessions are termed rat-nibbled. The trick of applying a bit of beeswax to the perforating pins improved the quality. Below is, what I believe to be, an example of each. However I suspect that there may be overlap of perforating quality between better rat-nibbled stamps and poorer beeswax stamps. Collectors can only be sure when the quality is at the opposite ends of the spectrum

The sheets were not available for sale, with those sales covered by the Enschede sheets. The selvedge was undecorated. This is a sheet typical of those taken to Bath for perforating.
