Onward

The Penny Patrician design lasted three more years with only the top corner motifs being updated.  These, however, did have hard to collect LBE only sports. The whole designed changed in the Year of the Pensive Hare, but from then on returned to a similar format each year, but had been redrawn and later Alan Batley`s Patrician artwork being replaced. There was a swan-song issue with six stamps in the Mail Coach booklet

Collectors of these stamp may, or may not, know that Colin issued sets of his own stamps using his contributions to the artwork of the Patricians. Like all his issues they are quirky and inventive. The Laernu Hat Festival stamps were a set of six, with ladies modeling their own over-the-top hats based on wildlife. The Penny Blanks were exercises for the apprentices who trained at trade workshops such as the Institute of Designers, Engravers and Artists. The Penny Blanks combine two iconic British images and are bound to outrage some more conservative folk. They provided a chance for collectors to have a stamp with their own initials. These (and all his other stamps) are worth checking out.
