Imperforate Patrician

One of the first items printed, that would be available for collectors, eventually emerged as the Imperforate Penny Patrician that was the freebie sent out with the first issue of the Stanley Howler Stamp Journal. However the design was originally rejected by Terry because the Patrician’s hair wasn’t grey enough. This was corrected by a later issue, the Eminence Gris. The sheets of 91 stamps were scissor cut and 500 became the free gift. Most exist as single stamps, but there are pairs and blocks of four in a few collections.
