The theme for the 2023 Isle of Vue stamp is the Amoren Tappen-tappen, or the Laernuan woodpecker. The pairs of birds were studied by naturalist Craig Durwen, and some of the variants are based around the courtship ritual that he discovered. Having said that, there are even more variants to look out for. How many in total? Who knows, but you can get very squinty-eyed looking for them. As usual this is a full blown stamp release with bonus items, artwork proofs, a postcard and more, Stamp artist Alan Batley has really brought to life the original sketches made of these birds by Durwen, who apparently was lost at sea on his way to present his findings at an island conference.
