The Wizards at the Unseen University are concerned. The Librarian is ill and without him the books are uncon-trollable. A spell would help but they need to know his name, and all records of it have been destroyed. Only Rincewind may be able to help,having worked with him in the past. But he is trapped on XXXX after the events of Interesting Times. Ridcully suggests the Egrarious Professor of Cruel and Unusual Geography may be able to help find him. He has not been seen for years and his bathroom window opens out onto a tropical beach. The senior wizards pass through. Shortly Mrs Whitlow, the senior housekeeper brings them breakfast closing the window behind her. They are stranded on Mono Island, where evolution seem to be quite rapid, and whatever they need a plant evolves to supply. There is never more than one of each plant or animal. Ponder Stibbons works out that they are still on Discworld, but the stars indicate they are thousands of years in the past. The island is home to a small god who has decided to start afresh and is tinkering with evolution. He evolves a melon boat for them to escape in and leave him to get on with his job, but before they set off off they discover his mountain cave where he is putting together an elephant. He apparently had no idea about sex and reproduction, but after Mrs Whitlow educates him he reckons it would be a good idea, and goes back to the drawing board. They set off heading towards XXXX where huge everlasting storm fills the skies. This enhances their magical capabilities, but the boat falls apart. The Dean uses a large seed to ride the surf to the shore. XXXX is still being formed, and the Creator is on the beach where he draws what should comes next and it pops into existence. The Dean is responsible for drawing a duck-billed platypus. The Librarian finds a bull-roarer and whishing it around causes them to fade into pointy headed cave paintings, frozen in time for thousands of years.			Rincewind is scraping an existence on XXXX but seemingly lucky to keep finding enough small water holes. It never rains there. A cave painting of a kangaroo comes to life - Scrappy he is called - who explains Rincewind has a quest. He provides food such as jam sandwiches to be found under convenient rocks. Scrappy explains that time is put together different in XXXX. What was not there last week may be 100,000 years old. Rincewind does not want a quest and runs off meeting Mad, a dwarf in black leather with an amoured and armed cart and eight horses. Mad takes him to Dijabringabeeralong where the local publican is a crocodile. Rincewind drinks too much and challenges the sheep shearers to a competition. He wins with the help of Scrappy in the form of a ram, and wins a small docile horse (Scrappy again) to get him to Bugarup on the coast. On the way he is saved by his stiff pointed had from one of the mythical drop bears, but is mistakenly arrested for sheep rustling and put into Bugarup jail to be hanged next day. Luckily he can just lift the cell door off its hinges. He is chased by the watch to the waterfront, where Scrappy tells him that the ships never sail out of sight of the coast for fear of going over The Rim. After posing as a chef at the opera house, Rincewind is reunited with The Luggage. Darleen and Letitia, and Neilette have used him to store their stilettos and frocks. Still on the run Rincewind and Neilette (the only woman of the three) hide in an old brewery, but an earthquake brings it crashing down. They have to shelter inside the Luggage. Afterwards he sees pictures of pointy hats on the rocks. Rincewind then visits the University of Bugarup ( motto Nullus Anxietas). They have a tower 20 foot tall at the bottom and half a mile tall at the top. The chancellor is called Bill Rincewind. Back at the brewery Rincewind finds the bull-roarer, and twirling it not only brings the UU wizards back to life, but also brings rain to the continent with them.
	The Wet hits the entire continent. The annual regatta at Dijabringabeeraalong is abandoned when the camel hauled boats actually float down the river carried by the water. A bolt of lightning his the university tower, demolishing it, setting Rincewind`s hat alight and curing the Librarian`s illness. When the rain has eased up the wizards board a boat carrying opals, bananas, beer, sheep and wool. It sails to NoThingfjord where they disembark and then they will travel by cart overland to Ankh-Morpork, Rincewind is surprised to be seen off by so many people he had met, all urging him to stay as he was a such great bloke. The XXXX Watch even have a pardon for him.
